MIRAGE is developing an integrated surveillance solution for critical infrastructure, combining autonomous robotics, advanced sensors and AI-driven analytics to strengthen the protection of energy sites and logistics hubs.

Across Europe, critical infrastructure is facing growing physical security risks, while many sites remain difficult and costly to monitor with traditional fixed surveillance systems. Existing systems can be limited in coverage, responsiveness and adaptability, creating a need for more intelligent and scalable protection tools

MIRAGE addresses this gap through the development of an integrated monitoring platform that combines autonomous robots, visual, thermal, light detection and ranging (LiDAR), radar inputs and AI-driven data analytics. This will enable persistent, high-precision monitoring of critical sites, including areas where fixed sensors are insufficient or too expensive to deploy.

The project, based in Lombardy region in Italy, promises to reduce the costs of conventional surveillance while increasing coverage, precision and safety for personnel. The system is also designed to be modular, interoperable with existing infrastructure, and scalable across different operational contexts. More broadly, the project can contribute to technology transfer and strengthen the Italian and European industrial base in strategic sectors, as well as providing valuable opportunities for SMEs and high-tech start-ups.
