HiWhyV aims to establish Sweden’s first large-scale hydrogen valley by linking two regional hubs: the West Coast, home to major industrial hydrogen demand, and the High Coast, one of Europe’s most favourable areas for renewable hydrogen production.
HiWhyV could produce up to 123.000 tonnes of renewable hydrogen annually. Applications include e-fuels, green fertilisers, sponge iron, and hydrogen-based transport. Residual oxygen and waste heat will be reused in aquaculture and district heating, boosting efficiency and sustainability.
Supported by the Clean Hydrogen Partnership, the project will demonstrate integrated hydrogen value chains at commercial scale and pioneer a demand-led deployment model. With replication actions in Germany, Spain, and Greece, HiWhyV aims to strengthen Sweden’s role in Europe’s hydrogen economy and provide a blueprint for future hydrogen valleys across the EU.
