Non-accessible content

Despite our best efforts to ensure the accessibility of the Strategic Technologies for Europe Platform website, we are aware of some limitations, which we are working to fix. Below is a description of known limitations and potential solutions. Please contact us if you encounter an issue not listed below.

Known limitations for the European Commission website:

  • Heading hierarchy: Some headings do not follow the correct heading hierarchy, which can cause problems for screen reader users. We plan to fix this by end of 2025.
  • Page Title: Page titles are not always sufficiently descriptive because they don't include the name of the site. We plan to fix this by July 2025.
  • Focus issue: Keyboard focus can move behind the sticky cookie consent banner at the bottom of the page. We plan to fix this by July 2025.
  • External links open without warning: Some links open a new window (or tab) without warning. We plan to fix this by end of July 2025.
  • Footer: Links in the footer are not always visually distinguishable from ordinary text. We plan to fix this by end of July 2025.
  • Graphs and charts – use of colour: Some graphs and charts on the website rely on colour alone to communicate information, which is confusing for people with colour vision deficiency. In charts where labels are not visually associated with the corresponding coloured section, clicking on the labels in the legends toggles the corresponding line, bar or section on or off, which allows users to check which label belongs to which part of the chart.
  • Video player – keyboard accessibility: We are aware of some issues with the keyboard accessibility of our video player (when selecting the caption language from the menu, it is not possible to use the arrow keys to move between languages, this can only be done with the TAB key).
  • Audio description: Videos on this website do not have audio description.

Known limitations for the European Commission platform dashboard:

  • The navigation and selection of some elements in Qlik Dashboards are not accessible via keyboard.
  • When zooming the page to 200%, some content becomes invisible, and graphs disappear.
  • Some content is available only on hover or focus states.
  • In some data visualization elements, it is not visually clear where the current focus is located.
  • Interface controls and non-text elements do not meet the minimum color contrast requirements (3:1)
  • Some elements have text contrast that does not meet the minimum color contrast requirements (4.5:1)
  • Some interactive elements do not have appropriate roles and accessible names.
  • Some links have names that do not describe accurately their purpose.

These issues are caused by third party QlickSense tool built in features. We could expect to be solved in the upcoming releases.
